Susan Taylor-Demming Speaks to the Issues
Engaging with the Business Community, Entrepreneurs, and Job Creators
- Willingness to engage actively with business personnel in the community
- Look for ways for businesses to come speak with students at schools to expose students to job and career opportunities
- Develop opportunities for technical companies to partner with extra-curricular clubs and interest groups to provide extensions of classroom knowledge to real life applications
- Leverage resources and link students with local businesses to establish long-term relationships and potential employment relationships
Providing Students with Positive Community Support
- The School Board should support District wide administrative and staff efforts to create "Mentally Healthy" educational environments
- Have open and safe communication between school staff and parents who have children with emotional, psychosocial, or learning challenges to address their best interests
- Ensure the district's health curriculum includes discussions and presentations regarding the issue of substance abuse
- Continue community approach with partnerships with neighboring districts, parent groups, and local police providing valued resources to enhance the safety of our children
Addressing Acheivement Gap Disparity
- District is beginning to implement new ways to elevate students preforming below the district standardized testing average
- Reducing the achievement gap will positively affect the district's overall state performance level but is also important in supporting struggling parents and families
Creating Open Dialogue and Transparency Within the Community
- Part of district's IPSD Citizen's Communication Committee from 2007-2009 when district faced discussions and decisions over boundary changes
- Attended meetings throughout the district regarding the boundary changes interviewing residents listening to concerns, suggestions, and provided feedback to the Communications Board
- Strong advocate for community listening tours if district is faced with extremely difficult and far reaching decisions that will directly impact the day to day educational experiences of children and families
